ABOUT THE ARTIST
David Chappell is a local St. Louis Artist and Illustrator living in the historic Dogtown area south of Forest Park. On an auditorily (wait, what?...he is told that he frequently makes words up ...case in point) clear day, he can hear seals barking from across Hwy 64/40 (pronounced sixty-far/ farty) from the St. Louis Zoo and he really digs that that is true. He was born across the ‘Mighty Mississippi’ and up the bluffs in Belleville, Illinois (fondly referred to as Belle-Vegas by locals). He attended art school at S.I.U. Edwardsville and while he became disillusioned with making art merely for art’s sake, he finds desire, direction, understanding and purpose for art through Christian faith. He is involved with making children’s murals as ministry and co-founded Fusion: Creative With Purpose, an artist’s community within The Journey, a local St. Louis church. He loves his family, friends and thriving local community, quoting movies (way too much), using the word ‘book’ as a way to denote that he has to leave immediately (as in...‘sorry, but I gotta book’), the opportunities before him to make art for a living, being a ‘Wisenheimer’ but not being pestered by one, run on sentences (with extensive use of parentheses to elaborate on things), the art of animation, a nice cold unfiltered Germanic Weissbier, and using the phrase ‘jerk bird’ as an expletive (thanks, Uncle Bob!). On the river of life, he looks forward to what’s around the next bend.
